I had such a great response from my painted cookies – including a shoutout from Bon Appetit themselves!
I was featured in their “Cook the Cover” slideshow featuring other bloggers/cooks who were similarly inspired by the December cover – my slide here.
I wanted to do a little holiday shindig – so I thought what better excuse than to invite friends over to also paint (and decorate) cookies? I had a great time seeing everyone’s cookie artistry come alive – I was seriously impressed with their work! What amazingly talented friends I have!
Here are some pictures of the night:
I went a little nuts and visited several stores in the city to source great candies that would look amazing on top of cookies. I spent my week off from work making dough, rolling dough, cutting out cookies and baking. I kept with only a few holiday themed shapes. I scored a great deal on squeeze bottles – really user-friendly tools for the novice decorators! I prepared a normal flow icing in: white, yellow, “red”, green, blue, pink and “brown”. (The ” denotes the colours I attempted to mix. They didn’t always turn out!)
Each guest got a small aluminum tray with their name on it to hold their creations.
The muffin trays were an easy way to hold all the different kind of candies and distribute them down the long table.
Peeking behind Tara’s shoulder at her handiwork.
A few of Leanne’s creations – great use of a mini PB cup as a tree trunk! As you can see, she used different techniques to marble the icing….
Painting on a gingerbread round (pre-flooded/iced for their convenience).
The painting table was set up in the den with chairs so guests could paint comfortably. We started the painting once the decorating was well on its way and some guests were ready to progress to Phase 2! (with lots of wine of course)
Some of Edd’s work – really amazing painted cookies!! Look at that ‘pear’! (snowman shape)
Above: Leanne’s beautiful work – amazing!
A selection of mine & other guests…
These cookies look so great, BA! How I wish I had been able to join in on the fun.
Wow all of these look amazing!
